The Beano is the longest running British children's magazine, it has been a household name for many many years, first being sold on 30th July 1938. It must have been doing something right having made 3946 issues over 80 years!

Of course like every modern day business it has moved on to the internet, you can now subscribe to The Beano comic online and even download an app that has lots of cool kids games!

2 million kids use the site which is the same number of kids that read the comic itself back in the 1950’s. We didn’t even think kids these days knew about The Beano!

But what's more surprising is The Beano paper comic still sells 37,500 copies per week, thats 1.86 million per year!

There are only known to be 25 copys of the first ever Beano in existence and some collectors would pay fortune to get there hands on one.

One Scottish collector payed £15,200 for one of the first issues that are valued at £12,000 however he paid the little extra as it came with the original flyer advertising the new comic the week before it came out.

We're just left wondering how much a FULL collection would be worth!

We have The Beano to thank for bringing so many well-known characters into our lives, Denis the Menace, Gnasher, The bash Street Kids. These characters are timeless and will never be forgotten about just like the beloved comic they were written in.

Happy Birthday Beano!
