New York Public Libraries Insta Novel

“Insta Novels” is the brainchild of creative consultancy, Mother & The New York public Library. Insta novels allow you to use Instagrams story and highlight function to read an entire novel.

The idea behind the concept is to bring reading to a wider audience using Instagram as the vehicle. Corinna Falusi, Partner and Chief Creative Officer of Mother in New York says Instagram has “unknowingly created the perfect bookshelf” for digital novels. As the stories fill up they are transferred to the New York Public Libraries highlights reel which will overtime become a digital bookshelf. The first book to be brought online is Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland which has been uploaded in two parts.

The design of the digitised Alice Through the Looking Glass upload aims to mirror the “unique layouts” of the original book, with the addition of new stills, graphics and videos.

New illustrations and animations have been added to the digital book, which were created by designer Magoz, who Mother say was chosen partly for their “significant presence” on Instagram. The @Magoz Instagram account has more than 57,000 followers. This allows the book to also be explored in a new way visually as animators and artists interpret the book to create an opening sequence.
